PAMANA AGHAM: SIYENSYA SA BAWAT HABI AT HIBLA
Weaving Cultural Heritage in the Modern Era, A Gift from the Science Community in Metro Manila
For the second time, DOST-NCR will once again showcase the vibrant history and culture of the Philippines through “Pamana Agham: Siyensya sa Bawat Habi at Hibla,” to be held on August 28-29, 2024, in Intramuros, Manila.
In collaboration with the DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI), Intramuros Administration, Partnerships for Sustainability Education (PSE), and the Department of Tourism (DOT), the exhibition is part of DOST-NCR’s Science Beyond Borders campaign. This campaign aims to leverage science, technology, and innovation (STI) to address challenges and create opportunities for Filipinos.
The first Pamana Agham was held in 2023, showcasing Halal products and tourism initiatives in collaboration with the Intramuros Administration. This year’s Pamana Agham will highlight the role of science, technology, and innovation in further enriching the Philippines’ rich history and culture of weaving. The goal is to demonstrate to the public how modern knowledge and technology can be integrated with the traditional art of past generations.
The celebration will open with the signing of an agreement between DOST-NCR, PTRI, and PSE. This will also include the launch of various projects such as PTRI’s Safatos Program. Another highlight will be Pamanang Habi, featuring clothing from PTRI’s KatHABI PTFs Reimagined Collection and the PSE Sustainable Fashion Show.
The public is also invited to visit the KatHABI Textile Innovation Exhibit and Sining Siyensya, which will showcase the talents, drawings, and art of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).
The second and final day of Pamana Agham will be packed with activities, including TelaHanga, where technology and innovation will be showcased to ensure a sustainable supply of local fabrics in the Philippines. Modern methods in the textile industry will also be featured.
For the creatives, there will be Tiny Thread Talk, a sewing competition for the youth to promote the local weaving industry to the next generation.
We invite everyone to join us at DOST-NCR’s Pamana Agham! Let’s come together, learn, and collectively advance science and the rich culture of weaving in the Philippines.
